Genomic Health, a life science company is focused on the global development and commercialization of genomic-based clinical laboratory services that analyze the underlying biology of cancer allowing physicians and patients to make individualized treatment decisions.
Its lead product, the Oncotype DX breast cancer test, has been shown to predict the likelihood of chemotherapy benefit as well as recurrence in early-stage breast cancer. In addition to this widely adopted test, Genomic Health provides the Oncotype DX colon cancer test, the first multigene expression test developed for the assessment of risk of recurrence in patients with stage II disease. As of September 30, 2010, more than 10,000 physicians in over 55 countries had ordered more than 175,000 Oncotype DX tests. Genomic Health has a robust pipeline focused on developing tests to optimize the treatment of prostate and renal cell cancers, as well as additional stages of breast and colon cancers. The company is based in Redwood City, California with European headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Client's Needs
- To provide a single platform for the management of all Genomic Health's web properties.
- Integrate existing web properties ‘as is’ into Sitecore CMS and provide a system for Genomic Health to globalize the web properties.
- The creation of a mobile version of the ‘Pass It On’ website with a focus on Apple iPhone technology.
Project Challenges
- Create a solution that will allow sharing and re-use of code and content across multiple different web properties.
- Create a solution that will allow translation of content into multiple languages easily, without the need for code modifications.
- Unify the page template structures and CSS from disparate web properties while maintaining the integrity of the existing creative.
Falcon-Software's Solution
We analyzed the web properties to determine the common systems that would be re-used across multiple web properties and created a common set of data templates and layouts for this content.
Falcon-Software also created an export/import system that would export all content in a source language and then import the content in the target language. This saved many hours of time in manual page creation. Once the content in the target language was created, it was scrubbed, tweaked and tested by content authors. Code modifications were only needed when the language characters caused a conflict. For example, a glossary that displayed the alphabet at the top of the page had to be modified for Japanese because the alphabet was not applicable.
