Beware of the DOTCOM renewal Scams
Some of you may be receiving notifications to renew your .com. Beware of
these because most of these are a scam to get you to switch Registrar.
What's a registrar? Well, every .com is looked after by a Registrar
(Network Solutions, Dotster etc). Some Registrars like Domain Registry
of America, for example, will look up your information at another registrar
and send you offical looking invoices to renew your .com - with them!
That is, you voluntarily switch the registrar to them. While this is not illegal,
it is very misleading and gets you into the potential trouble associated with switching registrars.

To find out who your .com is registered with go to www.dotster.com and click on "Who Is" in the top right. Enter your .com (without the www) and click "Lookup". You will see information about the registrant (the owner), the Registrar (who you pay the annual fee for the .com), the administration, and technical contacts and the DNS info about where the website is hosted.
