New Fine Science Tools (FST) Website Launch

New and improved FST Website, now optimized across multiple devices to provide a more interactive user experience.


VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, June 11, 2018 — PRESS RELEASE — Global eCommerce Website Launched - New Fine Science Tools (FST) eCommerce website was launched in April, after many hours of hard work by Falcon-Software's dedicated team.  FST is a leading distributor of precision surgical and microsurgical instruments and laboratory accessories serving a global audience. Since the launch of their first online ordering website in 2003, FST has continually evolved their eCommerce offering. The new website is built using Kentico CMS and involved a ground-up implementation of a modern, responsive website.

 

 Primary Objectives:

  1. Unify the 3 regional websites into one centralized Web CMS platform (Kentico 10) and translated into 9 languages

  2. Improve the eCommerce capabilities and integrate order management with FST’s two ERP systems - SAP and Sage

  3. Upgrade Kentico CMS from version 7 to version 10

  4. Implement a fully responsive solution

  5. Improve overall aesthetic and user experience and to make the site more engaging.

  6. Provide a more friendly management interface for FST content editors

Solutions:
Falcon-Software worked closely with FST to strategize and consult on the project requirements, UI and Kentico features that would best serve their goals and their customers’ needs. While development teams got to work on updating the Kentico platform and setting up server environments, project managers and coordinators established new taxonomies and designed migration plans for the 8000 or so customer records that would be exported to the new site.
 
Kentico CMS version 10 meant greatly improved ease-of-use and some exciting new eCommerce features such as promotional discounts and free gift offers. The OOB marketing tools were used to build contact lists, while Falcon-Software built a custom shipping module to accommodate FST’s global distribution requirements.
 
The site content is translated into nine languages, each seamlessly tied to the correct regional FST distribution center. Integrating FST’s SAP and Sage applications meant that order status and tracking could be managed in real-time from one centralized UI. Connecting to improved payment gateways BS Payone and Moneris would now provide industry-leading eCommerce security. The new site also offers quote saving, quick order and tracking order systems and a simplified user account dashboard for better UX.
 
The customer’s search experience was improved by including images and product group filtering to the search results. The new site was built using the Bootstrap framework to be fully responsive, including a custom product mega-menu. Lightbox image galleries and a new product zoom tool allowed users to explore some of the new high-resolution product photography.
 
Now optimized, easier to read content, clear call-to-action buttons and helpful product recommendations make the FST digital experience more enjoyable.
